  • For years, Republicans have proposed making the tax code so simple that Americans could file their taxes on a single postcard.Subscribe to our channel! http://goo.gl/0bsAjOSo when they got the chance to reform taxes in 2017, they made sure to design and implement a postcard-sized tax return. In reality, the postcard isn’t what they say it is. While it’s half the size of the old form, the new form is more condensed than simplified. Important deductions and tax credits, still exist, but they’ve been moved onto other forms. In order to file taxes with the new form, you could end up attaching six or more extra pieces of paper.Republicans didn’t really simplify the tax code, but they still tried to simplify the tax return form. I'm sick of Vox being biased towards facts and accurate information, just because they are true!

And then we have Denmark, where all of the taxes are done automatically, so once a year all Danes go to a government website and check if they paid too little or too much taxes and how much they have to pay back or get paid from the government. Much easier than the American version and much less expensive because it spares time for the government and for the people

Truth is we could actually do that as well. As they already know how much we owe or how much were supposed to get back. But you know politics and all that other b******* they don't want to do that.

Magnus Barken unfortunately the danish system block away many possible deductions and fears a welfare state. The danish system could also not work in the u.s because Denmark is a homogenous country operating on simple means of income, while the U.S is the opposite

So basically they just wasted taxpayers money to "Applefy" the form. Looks simple but if you want the full capabilities of it, then attach bunch of dongles on them.

Ted Cruz's 2015 speech sounded like Steve Jobs announcing the first iPhone, but of course, not as great.

What I'm still mad about is taxes COULD be this easy (the government already KNOWS what we owe) if we once again didn't have lobbying from turbotax and other 'convenient' sites that rely on the tax code being as obfuscated as possible

You can trust the government to handle 300,000,000 peoples money if you want but I would rather but that trust in a person who isn't after my money.

"Why Republicans failed to fit taxes onto a postcard" - It wasn't a failure. It was a flat out lie.

@Christian Knuchel Another myth: the Republicans and Democrats have historically been on opposite ends of the spectrum in this context. ... Just because "neoliberal" has "liberal" in it doesn't mean it pertains to liberals (see: Ronald Reagan, the Great Right-Winger). Right wingers and neoliberals are on the same side of the coin.

If the Republicans are proposing some sort of tax reform, it's *guaranteed* to make people with less money pay more, and people with more money pay less. If it's the Democrats, it's not much different either. Right wingers and neoliberals are just two halves of one side of the coin.

The only simple thing about taxes, is saying tax reforms are simple. Easy to say hard to put in practice

It’s so weird that Americans in normal employment need to fill in tax forms. In UK your tax is all calculated automatically and deducted as you earn and the vast majority never even see a tax form. You only need to file forms if you are self employed or have complex income arrangements. Is there a reason the US has such an old-fashioned system?
