Florida residents rescued while riding out Hurricane Michael

  • Just east of Mexico Beach where, Hurricane Michael made landfall, is Port St. Joe. A number of people who chose to ride out the storm there needed to be rescued. CBS News correspondent Omar Villafranca reports.

    People just lost everything. This is not even touching the damage that was done. I can tell you there was no way to prepare for this and people were not told it was going to be as bad as it was til this morning when it was too late to evacuate. Yes most of the beach people did but this thing went inland at higher speeds than I've ever seen. People should just shut up and keep their judgements to themselves while others put their life back together.

    Ok, you live on the coast where hurricanes happen. I live in inland Ga where we NEVER have category 3 hurricanes. But we evacuated unsafe locations because the path was obvious and we know very well what tornadoes do.

    Why would people in places like Port St. Joe stay in the face of 10+ foot storm surge? That's just plain stupid.

    Gulf county was the first place to get a mandatory evacuation I live here in Port St. Joe
